February 2nd - 6th

Special note:

I wanted to let you know that we will be celebrating Valentine’s Day in our classroom next Wednesday.

If students wish to bring in Valentines for their classmates, there will be an opportunity to hand them out Wednesday morning. We have 25 students in our morning class. .

To help make distributing Valentines smooth and stress-free, it would be greatly appreciated if they are addressed to “My Friend” and signed by your child, rather than to individual names.

Thank you for your support, and we’re looking forward to a fun and kind celebration together!

Looking back on learning:

Phonics:

- We learned about the long O sound this week.

-We use "igh" in the middle of words (most time they end in a t - might, fight, night) and in the end of words (less frequent - sigh, high).

-We use "ie" in the end of words (pie, lie, tie)

-Students practiced using word chains, decodables, word mapping)

Olympics:

- We started talking about the 2026 Olympics.

-Students learned about some of the sports and were really interested in Bobsledding and the Skeleton.

-We talked about the opening ceremonies, how often they happen and looked at this years mascot's.

-Students designed a "torch" and shared which sport they are excited to watch and learn more of over the next few weeks.

Writing:

-Students started their own independent research project this week.

-They used Pebble Go (online) and recorded their own jot notes based an a mammal of their choice.

-After gathering information, they have begun creating a google slide presentation to share their new knowledge.

-We will continue to work on these next week and then present in small groups.
