January 26th - 30th

 Looking back on learning.....

Phonics:

- Long O sound.

- We now know that o-e, ow, oa, and oe say the O sound.

- We use oa in the beginning or middle of words - boat, oat.

-We use ow in the end, or in the middle when the word ends in a L or N - snow, blown

-Use oe in the end (not used as much) - toe, foe, doe





Literacy:

-Students continued working on paragraph writing.

-They composed paragraphs about themselves to include : topic sentence, 3-4 facts with elaboration, and a closing sentence.

-Students learned about seahorses while taking jot notes.

-Then students individually chose facts from their jot notes to create a paragraph to share their knowledge of seahorses. 




Science:

-We finished part of our energy unit. Students completed the sound portion.

-Important concepts we will review and student need to know - sound waves travel in a straight path, sound in made through vibrations, sound can reflect, bounce and be absorbed, the difference between volume, pitch and duration, and how our brains receive sound information.

- We will investigate light energy starting next week.



Math:

-We continue to build on our addition and subtraction facts.

-Students learned how to decompose whole numbers and relate making ten to making 100.

-Students practiced the "stacking method".
