 Looking back on learning.......

Phonics:

- This week we focused our learning on the long e sound.

- We discovered ee, ea, y, ey, ei, and ie all make the long e sound.

-Some vowel teams have special rules like ey - it comes at the end of a 2 syllable word.

- We practiced our two heart words: among & above.

- Students reviewed when to use a c or k at the beginning of a word - C takes a, o, and u .... and K takes i and e (cat, cord, cut, kite, keep)

Writing:

- Students learned about paragraph components.

- They practiced using topic sentences, closing sentences and introducing facts.

- We are working hard and will continue to work on elaborating on our facts. Ex. Blue whales are the largest animals in the world. (Fact) They are longer than a yellow school bus. (Elaboration).

- We continued to sort nouns and verbs and identified them in our own writing.

Math:

-Students finished up our statistics unit where they worked on creating plot, picto and bar graphs.

-They used this information to answer questions to compare and contrast their data.

- This week we continued to work on mastering our doubles, the higher ones (9+9) are the trickier ones.

-Students learned the stacking method for adding and subtracting 2-digit numbers. We must remember to always start with the ones column first and then move over to the tens column.
