Sept 15th - 19th

Informational Items:

Our dance residency with Three Left Feet  will wrap up with a special performance next Thursday at 10:00 - 10:45, where students will showcase what they have learned. We look forward to this creative and energetic experience!

Friday is Orange Shirt Day. If possible, come to school wearing orange. We will be having an all student assembly!

 Looking back on learning......

Phonics:

- This week we reviewed the sounds -oll, -all, and -ull.

-The double "ll" can make the vowel sound different.

-Examples are mall, troll, and skull.

-Students wrote the room, read passages with the teacher and independently, and showed what they know in their end of week dictation (mini assessment).

Writing:

- We continued to develop our expertise at writing sentences.

-This week we learned the difference between a statement, command and question.

-We practiced using exclamation marks, periods, and question marks.

Science:

-We continued to investigate materials in our world.

-Students spent time learning how some materials are natural and some are processed.

-Helpful hint was N is for nature (natural) and P is for people (processed)

- Students learned more about how Indigenous people used natural materials in the past. We discovered how they would use all of the animals for different purposes (meat/food, clothing, blankets, hides for tipis, bone for tools).

Math:

- We continued to learn about increasing patterns this week.

-Students learned how to create their own and extend ones already created.

-They worked hard to identify and write the pattern rule.

-Students created sounds/body movement patterns in small peer groups.

We are bucket fillers:

- Student enjoyed listening to "How Full Is Your Bucket?' by Tom Rath & Mary Reckmeyer.

-They brainstormed all of the ways they can help fill others buckets and their owns.

-We are working hard to inspire kindness, understanding and compassion within our classroom community.
